        Lauren: A Star in the Making

 

      We all have dreams of what we want to be when we grow up. Some of us continue that dream until it comes true. Lauren Jelencovich, an 18 year old girl has known what she wanted to be since she was a child. She has contined with her dream and hasn't given up. Lauren is from South Florida and as a kid she would sing all the time. Lauren said that when Disney's movie, The Little Mermaid came out, that's when she knew she wanted to be a singer.
 

    Lauren has sang at numerous events in many different cities. She has been featured on CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX and Teen Magazine. One of Lauren's most memorable moments was when she won Ed McMahon's Next Big Star Search. She also won South's Florida's Pathfinder award for singing. Lauren said, "It was like the Grammy's. There were lights and cameras!" Lauren has also sang at Carnegie Hall and will be doing a few solo concerts next year.

    Lauren is currently attending college at The Manhattan School of Music in New York, majoring in vocal music. She says that the students there are amazingly talented and that her teachers are great too. She remarks, "It's so great to be in New York, although it's cold. I'm not use to the weather. I miss the beach!" Going to New York was a big step for Lauren. She is very close to her family, but they are very supportive of her and visit her often.

    Lauren's dream is to be an international recording artist along with doing some movies and being on broadway. She wants to be an all around entertainer. What makes her different from other singers is that she has come a long way in such a short time. She is able to balance going to school and singing. Lauren says that, "Singing is my life."

    Lauren can sing a range of different types of music, but she likes to sing light pop to light opera. She has met many celebrites who have given her advice, but one who sticks out is Celine Dion's husband, Rene. He said follow your dreams. And that's what she is doing.

    Lauren says that if you are an aspiring singer all you have to do is practice, practice, practice, keep singing, follow your dreams and never give up!
