Practicing Positivity

“Just one small positive thought in the morning can change your whole day.”

Hi friends! How are we holding up?! I’m feeling like we need a little Monday Motivation with a dash of positivity!

I’m normally a glass half - full sort of person, but I have to recognize that even in normal times- it’s not always a walk in the park - and let’s be real, the last year has been difficult to keep a “happy go lucky” outlook. With vaccines rolling out and the news of live shows/concerts possibly starting up again, I am feeling a wave of hope and have noticed an uptick in my positive thinking - or maybe it’s a result of my daily “positivity practices.” ;)

I know a few of you have texted me or reached out on socials and said you are finding it hard to stay positive so I thought I’d put a list together and share some things I’m doing to keep a positive mind-set.

  • Try and think of one positive thought in the morning - even if it’s just “Today will be a great day” or another positive affirmation. Can’t think of one? Google positive affirmations!

  • Listen to a song that I love. Some of my current favorites are “Carried Me With You” - Brandi Carlile and “Alaska” - Maggie Rogers! If you’re looking for a podcast to start your day, one I’ve been really loving is Brené Brown’s “Unlocking Us” on Spotify.

  • Move my body - daily walks are my jam.

  • Focus on good things. Even if it seems insignificant, I try to see the silver lining if something doesn’t go the way I thought it would. Sometimes it’s not immediate - but I’ll get there!

  • Think of something I’m grateful for.

  • I love a good true crime movie or tv show, but sometimes I need to watch something that’s a little light hearted and not stressful. Something that will make me smile. Schitt’s Creek has been great as well as old favorites like Friends and Sex and the City.

  • Celebrate the small victories. “I went outside today!” “I crossed 2 things off my to- do list!” “I made the bed!” Anything is a win in my book.

  • Positive self talk. We are pretty hard on ourselves and can be our own worst critic. Notice the way that voice inside your head is speaking to you. Try and keep it in check by identifying negative thoughts and being a bit more gentle with yourself. Give yourself a little encouragement.

  • At the end of the day, I try to think about what the best part of my day was. I’ll even ask those around me. “What was the best part of your day?” My answers range from singing related things to my oat milk latte being deliciously amazing that day and the birds I saw outside… I’ve been pretty obsessed with seeing hummingbirds on my walks recently - I’m contemplating walking around with a hummingbird feeder just to see one a little more up close and personal! I guess the high notes are not the only reason I’m called the #Nightingale!

Hope these little “Positivity Practices” can help in some way. Do you have any helpful Positivity Practices? Please share in the comments of this blog post!

Sending you all love! 🤍
